Every registered domain has a minimum of 2 Name Server records that show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain name to the servers of a particular website hosting company. That way, you've got both your website and your e-mails handled by the same service provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), nevertheless, there are a number of other records, like A and MX. The first one reveals which server handles the website for a given domain name and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one indicates which server deals with the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an illustration, when you type a domain in your Internet browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain name uses and from there you could be forwarded to the servers of another company in case you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain. Having separate records for the website and the emails suggests that you could have your site and your e-mails with two different companies if you'd like.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Web Hosting

If you have a shared web hosting account through our company and you wish to direct either your site or your emails to another provider, it will take you literally simply 2 clicks to do this. Our Hepsia Control Panel comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you'll be able to see and change the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you decide to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the default 2, it is not going to take more than a few mouse clicks either to add them. You can even set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the higher the priority a certain MX record is going to have. The propagation of any record that you change or set up won't take more than several hours and if necessary, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which reveals how long a record will remain active after it is changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Accessing and editing the A or MX records for any of your domain addresses or subdomains is incredibly easy if you get a semi-dedicated server plan through our company. The accounts are managed via our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which features a section committed to the DNS records of your domain names. The latter will be listed alphabetically and you may click on each of them to see both the A and the MX records. Changing any record is as easy as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even when you have never dealt with such matters before, you simply won't experience any issues if you wish to move your site or e-mails to a different service provider while keeping the second service with our company. When required, you could also create additional MX records and set a certain priority depending on the instructions of the new provider.
